Device and method for producing leno fabrics

The leno yarn (3) is moved vertically by eyelets (9), preferably held in shafts, and horizontally by flexible needles (8). The needles (8) are located in a needle bar (6) between the guides (7) for the stationary yarn (4). A rail (8a) gives horizontal movement to one end of the needles (8). The needles (8) are bent to allow them to clear the guides (7) and can have a wider guide section to reduce the amount of movement required. An Independent claim is also included for the weaving process incorporating the steps of raising the leno yarn (3) above the guide (7), displacing it sideways with the needle (8), and lowering it into the gap between the guides (7). A weft yarn is then inserted into the shed formed by the leno yarn (3) and the stationary yarn (4) and beaten up with the reed (2). The sequence is then repeated alternately. The needle bar (6) is raised to form the shed and then lowered again.
