A press tool (6) is moved downward into a mold (2) which surrounds an anvil (1). The mold may be moved up above the level of the top of the anvil (7), and the press tool may be moved down into the mold to compress a green ceramic workpiece. A first ceramic layer (31) is placed in the mold up to a first filling level (8). A second layer of different composition (41) may be placed on the first layer up to a second filling level (9). Further pieces of different composition (51,51') may be placed in the mold raised to a third filling level (10). The press tool is then used to compact the workpiece ready for firing. |
