PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To discriminate dots requiring jaggy correction and to decide correction data efficiently and properly through simple discrimination and arithmetic operation with respect to multilevel image data such as a color image. SOLUTION: A multi-level data processing section 71 recognizes a state of picture element density in a prescribed area around each dot of multi-level image data to provide an output of reference density data and of an information code denoting the propriety of the correction and binarizes data under printing, and a pattern recognition section 74 recognizes a shape of line segments of a border between a black dot area and a white dot area to convert the result into code information. A correction section 75 discriminates whether or not each dot of th multi-value image data requires correction based on the multi- value data processing section 71 and the pattern recognition section 74 and a binary image recognition means applies correction depending on the code information only to dots requiring the correction. |
