The braking system includes hydraulic brakes (1,5) for application to the front wheel (44) and rear wheel (47) respectively. The control system includes a hand control (11) for application of hydraulic pressure connected to the front wheel (1), and an inter-locking system (20) connected to the rear wheel brake (5). This includes an auxiliary master cylinder (23) which generates hydraulic pressure in interlocking mode. A pedal operated hydraulic system (30) operated by the pedal (31) also applies hydraulic pressure to the rear brake, such that the foot and hand brake systems apply pressure independently to the rear wheel. Pipes (63) carry fluid from the auxiliary master cylinder to the rear brake, and to a reservoir (24), with the pipe connecting to the rear brake having a larger internal diameter than that connecting to the reservoir. A control unit (21) detects the pressure applied to the front brake and controls a motor which generates pressure in the auxiliary master cylinder accordingly.
