PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a feed quantity and feed direction control device and method for a sewing machine allowing rapid sewing as well as allowing sewing of varied patterns with seams formed by needle thread and bobbin thread by controlling the feed quantity and feed direction of cloth using a motor. SOLUTION: This feed quantity and feed direction control device for the sewing machine comprises an operator interface means for inputting the feed quantity and feed direction of cloth according to an operator's intention; a motor driving control means for outputting a motor driving control signal on the basis of feed information on the feed quantity and feed direction of the cloth inputted through the operator interface means; and a cloth feed control means for controlling the rotating direction and rotating speed of the motor by the motor driving control signal from the motor driving control means.
