PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multiphase emulsion which is applicable to cosmetics, quasi-drugs, drugs and other household products, is improved in coating applicability, has high preservation stability, and has a low viscosity. SOLUTION: The polyhydric alcohol esterified product of the self-condensation product of monohydroxycarbonic acid and an anionic surfactant are incorporated into the multiphase emulsion, by which the preparation of the W/O/W type multiphase emulsion composition having the good preservation stability while having the viscosity as low as≤100 mPas sufficiently satisfactory in usability by coating application is made possible.
