The holder (1) includes a clamping device for securing it to elongated supports (2), the device comprising two clamping jaws (4, 5) which are rotatable relative to each other about a point in the holder. A tensioning device is used to tighten the jaws together. At least one jaw had an adjustable rotation point. An independent claim is also included for a combination of the holder and a horizontal rod-shaped support, e.g. a balcony rail.
