The invention relates to a process and an installation for separating oil and solid substances from the oil-coated particles, meant for cleaning drilling mud or sand contaminated as a consequence of oil spillages. According to the invention, the separating installation comprises an enclosure (1) provided on one side with an orifice (2) for supplying the sand-oil mixture and inside with a fluidising unit (3) comprising a supply conduit (5) for supplying washing water, an outlet (4) and a discharge conduit (6) communicating with some liquid-liquid separation wet cyclons (8 and 14).
