METHOD FOR TRANSFORMING PLANT BELONGING TO GENUS COFFEA

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for transforming a plant belonging to the genus Coffea, by which the transformed adventive embryo of the plant can efficiently be induced and proliferated to produce the transformed plant belonging to the genus Coffea in a large amount.

SOLUTION: This method for transforming the plant belonging to the genus Coffea, comprising infecting the cut tissue pieces of the plant with an Agrobacterium bacterium to transduce the exogenote into the cells of the plant to obtain the transformed coffee is characterized by preliminarily culturing the cut tissue pieces in a culture medium containing phenylurea type cytokine, before infected with the Agrobacterium bacterium. The phenylurea type cytokinin which is a plant hormone is preferably 4-CPPU (N-2-chloro-4-pyridyl-N- phenylurea) or TDZ (thidiazlon).
