PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a sugar chain having a specific structure in high efficiency in the case of producing various oligosaccharide chains useful e.g. as pharmaceuticals, medical treatment materials and research assisting materials with a cell by using a sugar chain primer. SOLUTION: The method for the production of the oligosaccharide chain to produce a sugar chain having a specific structure in high efficiency comprises the administration of the sugar chain primer to a cell differentiated by a physiologically active substance to produce a sugar chain and activate a specific sugar transferase in the cell.
