The invention relates to a process for obtaining a genetically modified corn plant, capable of synthetizing starch with modified structure, as well as to starch isolated from the transgenic corn grain, and has applicability in the agricultural and food industry fields. According to the invention, the process consists of the following stages: a) obtaining a chimeric gene which contains a fragment of nucleic acid encoding a structural gene of the enzyme which branches the starch or a fragment thereof, operationally connected with an either sense, or anti-sense orientation, on the upstream side of the nucleic acid fragment which encodes a promoter which directs the gene expression into the corn endospermic tissue, and operationally connected on the downstream side of the nucleic acid fragment which encodes for an appropriate regulating sequence in order to finish the trascription; b) transforming the corn by using the chimeric gene resulting in the stage a), where the chimeric gene expression has as a result a modification of the fine structure of the starch resulting from the transformed corn grain, compared to the fine structure of the starch provided by corn grains which do not have the respective chimeric gene. |
