PURPOSE:An apparatus for dispensing liquid crystal capable of compensating an amount of dispensing liquid crystal according to a height of a spacer and a method for dispensing liquid crystal are provided to fill a liquid crystal panel with liquid crystal corresponding to a cell gap all the time, thereby preventing problems related to brightness and bad gravity generated due to bad dispensing. CONSTITUTION:A spacer measuring unit(170) measures a height of a pattern spacer formed on a substrate. A liquid crystal dispenser(120) dispenses liquid crystal through a nozzle on the substrate by a pressure of gas and controls an amount of dispensing the liquid crystal through an exhaust hole opened and shut by the movement of the needle by magnetic force of a solenoid coil and tension of a spring. A power supply(150) supplies power to the solenoid coil. A gas supply(152) supplies gas to the liquid crystal dispenser. A control unit(160) controls the power supply and the gas supply to dispense a set amount of the liquid crystal on the liquid crystal, and calculates an amount of the liquid crystal to be dispensed on the substrate based on the height of the spacer.
