PURPOSE: An electrodeless discharge lamp is provided to achieve maximized efficiency of energy transfer and improved illuminance, while allowing for an effective radiation of heat generated from the magnetic core. CONSTITUTION: An electrodeless discharge lamp comprises an envelope(10) having a dome shape and an interior coated with a phosphor layer and filled with an ionizable gas medium; a magnetic core(20) arranged beneath the flat bottom surface of the envelope; a coil(28) wound on the magnetic core so as to allow for a magnetic induction; and a power(30) electrically connected to both ends of the coil, and which supplies a radio frequency. The envelope has a reflective layer interposed between the flat bottom surface and the phosphor layer. The magnetic core has flux inlet/outlet ports(22,24) directed toward the flat bottom surface of the envelope.
