PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely acquire the attached file of an electronic mail when necessary and to release a user from trouble of unnecessary reception of the attached file. SOLUTION: A mail reception part 50 receives an electronic mail. A mail contents discrimination part 51 discriminates whether the attached file can be opened in a local device or not. A preservation transmission control part 52 discriminates whether the electronic mail should be preserved in a preservation part 53 or not on the basis of the analysis result of the mail contents discrimination part 51. When a file which cannot be opened by the local device is attached to the electronic mail, the attached file is stored in the preservation part 53. In the case that all the attached files can be opened, an image generation part 54 opens them and transmits them as document images by a facsimile transmission part 55. In the other case, the image generation part 54 generates a document image of only an electronic mail text and properly generates also an image informing that the data which cannot be opened are stored in the preservation part 53, and transmits the generated document image by the facsimile transmission part 55.
