PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve safety at high temperatures of an alkaline battery on a sealing gasket for the alkaline battery. SOLUTION: A boss part 7 is formed in the center of a disc type main body 2, and a thin part 8 is formed in the circumference of the boss part 7. Four pieces of ribs 3, 4, 5, 6 are projected and provided on the negative electrode terminal side in the circumference of the thin part 8 and the two pieces of the ribs 3, 4 are made higher than the remaining two ribs 5, 6. Consequently, even when the high ribs 3, 4 make contact with a negative electrode terminal, the opposite side (the neighborhood of the low ribs 5, 6) normally works as a safety valve in the case when the sealing gasket is softened by heat. Additionally, gas is discharged from the opposite side (the neighborhood of the high ribs 3, 4) even when a discharge passage of gas is blocked as a portion of the sealing gasket 1 in the circumference of the low ribs 5, 6 makes contact with the negative electrode terminal.
