摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an effective method for recognizing an article by a robot by using the computer graphics. SOLUTION: A system for recognizing an article by a robot comprises a three-dimensional model storage unit to store a three-dimensional model in a computer, an image pick-up means to pick up the images of the three- dimensional model from various kinds of view points in a three-dimensional space on the computer to obtain the image, a photo analyzing means to extract the characteristics of the article from the images obtained by the image pick-up unit, a learning unit to store the characteristics of the three-dimensional model in the knowledge of the article from a knowledge storage unit to store the characteristics of the article extracted by the photo analyzing means in the knowledge of the article, an image pick-up means to pick up the image of the article in a real world and obtain the image thereof, a photo analyzing means to extract the characteristics of the article from the image acquired by the image pick-up means, and an image comparing means to recognize the article from the characteristics of the article extracted by the photo analyzing means and the knowledge of the article accumulated in the knowledge storage means.
