PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image classification method, image classification system, program and data structure of image file capable of facilitating the retrieval of a desired image. SOLUTION: The image classification method is a method for classifying and storing a plurality of image files having image information and incidental information incidental to the image information in a storage means. On the basis of at least one of the incidental information and related information related to the incidental information which is acquired by use of the incidental information, classification reference information consisting of a classification criteria for classifying the image files into a plurality of classification items and the plurality of classification items is formed. The image files corresponding to the classification items, in which at least one of the incidental information and the related information is included in the classification reference information, are sorted to the classification items, whereby the image files are classified.
