PURPOSE:An apparatus for transmitting a packet for a multimedia streaming service and a method therefor are provided to apply changes in a coding method to a packetizing procedure according to a network state. CONSTITUTION:A terminal requests contents information to a server(S102). The server transmits information related to contents to the terminal(S104). The server packetizes the bit stream according to a predetermined coding method to transmit the same to the terminal(S105). The terminal decodes the transmitted data and monitors a network state(S106). If the network state is bad, the terminal requests the server to change the coding method into a packet resilient coding method(S108,S110). The server changes the coding method for packetizing the bit stream and transmits multimedia stream to the corresponding terminal(S112). If the network state is normal, the terminal requests the server to change the coding method into the previous coding method(S108,S110).
