<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery separator with high mechanical strength and thin thickness, and to provide a battery using this separator and a manufacturing method of this battery. <P>SOLUTION: This battery separator 4' is manufactured in such a way that a polymer layer 8 is formed on at least the surface of a porous separator 5 made of glass fibers or the like by a means of spraying, immersing, or brushing, or polymer 7 is impregnated in pores, and the polymer layer 8 or the polymer 7 is dried and condensed.
