PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a superconducting element which has a large superconducting critical current and has the superior reproducibility of an electrical characteristic. SOLUTION: The superconducting element comprises a top electrode 1, a bottom electrode 5, and a barrier layer 3 disposed between the top electrode 1 and the bottom electrode 5. Between the bottom electrode 5 and the barrier layer 3 and between the top electrode 1 and the barrier layer 3, buffer layers 2 and 4 are interposed respectively. The buffer layers 2 and 4 are alloy compounds of electrode materials of which the top electrode 1 and the bottom electrode 5 are formed and a barrier material of which the barrier layer 3 is formed, and exhibits superconductivity. By disposing the buffer layers 2 and 4 on both sides of the barrier layer 3, lattice matching between the barrier and the electrodes is improved and thereby a spatially uniform barrier structure is obtained, resulting in obtaining a superconducting element having a high superconducting critical current and superior reproducibility.
