PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluorescent lamp causing little drop of luminous flux along with elapse of a lighting time, and having high luminous flux. SOLUTION: This fluorescent lamp has a function capable of generating discharge by inputting power into a glass bulb filled with mercury and a rare gas inside, and is provided with a protective film on the inside wall of the glass bulb, and a phosphor layer mainly containing a phosphor on the protective film. The fluorescent lamp is composed by including, in the protective film, small particles of a phosphor having a central particle diameter (D<SB>50</SB>) in the range of 1.0μm<D<SB>50</SB>≤4.0μm, and fine particles of a metal oxide having a central particle diameter (D<SB>50</SB>) in the range of 0.05μm<D<SB>50</SB>≤1μm. Preferably, at least one metal oxide selected from a group comprising aluminum oxide, silicon oxide, titanium oxide, zinc oxide and yttrium oxide is used for the metal oxide. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
