The protective film (1) is made from several layers 60 to 80 microns thick, attached to one another and the outer surface of a private or commercial vehicle's bodywork (4) by an adhesive (5). The film can be plain or colored, and each layer has a numbered tongue (3) which is pulled to detach it from the layer underneath, leaving a clean surface.
