<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dye-sensitized solar battery thermally and optically stable, and capable of efficiently using sunlight energy by using a metal oxide semiconductor electrode sensitized by a ruthenium complex dye absorbing light over a wide wavelength range. <P>SOLUTION: This dye-sensitized metal oxide semiconductor electrode uses a ruthenium complex (atomic valence II) expressed by general formula (1) or general formula (2), wherein R<SB>1</SB>is a bonding group selected from a carboxyl group, a sulfonic acid group or the like, L' is diketonate and X is a halide, a cyano group or the like.
