PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a quartz oscillator having high frequency stability of an output signal at a frequency of secondary harmonic mode vibration or a quartz oscillator capable of outputting an output signal at a frequency of a basic wave mode vibration. SOLUTION: A quartz oscillator is constituted of a quartz oscillation circuit consisting of a tuning fork type bent quartz vibrator provided with a tuning fork arm and a tuning fork base part, arranging grooves or through holes on the upper and lower surfaces of the tuning fork arm or the tuning fork arm and the tuning fork base part, arranging electrodes on the side faces of the grooves or through holes, and arranging electrodes of different polarity on the side face of the tuning fork arm oppositely to the former electrodes so that the figure of merit (FOM) of secondary harmonic mode vibration is larger than that of basic wave mode vibration. Thus the quartz oscillator capable of generating an output signal of secondary harmonic mode frequency on the basis of relation between the amplification factor of an amplifier circuit and the feedback ratio of a feedback circuit can be highly accurately realized.
