The transfer of an element (12) from a donor substrate to a target substrate (40) consists of: (a) rendering the element to be transferred integral with a carrying substrate (30) by means of an adhesive layer (32) able to be degraded; and (b) degrading the adhesive layer to release the element to be transferred.
