PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a two-dimensional photonic crystal face emitting laser array in which the generation of a crosstalk is restrained. SOLUTION: A substrate 11 is overlaid with a lower clad layer 12, an active layer 13 that emits light by injecting a carrier, and an upper clad layer 14. The lower clad layer 12 comprises a photonic crystal periodic structure 21 in which a refraction index period is two-dimensionally placed. The two-dimensional photonic crystal face emitting laser is made to vibration sympathetically by the structure 21 to emit light from the top surface of the upper clad layer 14. When an array of the lasers is formed, an upper electrode 17 is arrayed on the upper clad layer 14 in a direction orthogonal to a pointing vector of the photonic crystal periodic structure 21.
