PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact coin image discriminating device capable of further improving its maintenance and safety checks. SOLUTION: Independent first and second boxes 3, 4 are mounted oppositely to each other at a predetermined interval, a coin passage 2 is formed therebetween, an image pick-up means 20 is mounted in at least one of the first and second boxes, and light emitting means 6, 22 are mounted in at least one of the first and second boxes or both of them.
