PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus and an image forming method capable of enhancing the copy performance in a memory copy function. SOLUTION: When encoded data of a prescribed size or over with respect to each original page have been stored, data transfer to a decoding means and print processing by a printer section are started, and compression storage of read data and expansion recording of read data are processed in parallel. In the data transfer control process, a succeeding DMA transfer size is decided variably in response to the amount of the transferred data and the amount of the increase of non transfer data.
