PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cathode-ray tube device having good color purity capable of generating a good landing characteristic by reducing the influence of the external magnetic field. SOLUTION: The cathode-ray tube device is furnished with a magnetic shield 11 in the form of a hollow trapezoid has a small opening 22 on the side with its electron gun structure and a large opening 21 on the side with a face panel, wherein the condition FPv/FPh<1 is satisfied, where FPh and FPv are the horizontal and vertical dimensions of the face panel 1, respectively. The large opening 21 of the shield 11 has a horizontal and a vertical dimensions of Fh and Fv, which satisfy (Fv/Fh) approximately equal to (FPv/FPh). The small opening 22 of the shield 11 has a horizontal and a vertical dimensions Nh and Nv, which satisfy Nv/Nh)=(FPv/FPh)×α, where (Nv/Nh)<1, andαis conditioned as 0.50<α<1.00 or 1.15<α<1.34.
