PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it easy to retrieve a frame from a moving picture. SOLUTION: A program for frame extraction from the moving picture extracts a plurality of frames from the moving picture according to a preset extraction condition. In first extracting process, the whole selected moving picture is regarded as an extraction range and the number preset as the extraction condition, for example, 20 frames are extracted from the extraction range. A plurality of the extracted frames are arranged time sequentially and displayed on a monitor. In each of second and succeeding extracting processes, a precedent or following extraction range on the basis of one frame selected from the plurality of last extracted frames is specified. Then 20 frames are extracted from the specified extraction range. Each time extraction is repeated, the extraction range is narrowed down, so the frame retrieval is facilitated.
