PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for manufacturing an image display device capable of joining its substrate quickly, easily and certainly while the entire substrate is kept at low temperatures. SOLUTION: According to this manufacturing method for the image display device, a sealing material 21 having electric conductivity is arranged at least one of its back face substrate 12 and front face substrate 11, and current is fed to the sealing material from a power supply 120 to heat it and melt, and the front face substrate and back face substrate are joined together by their peripheries. When current feed is made to the sealing material for heating, the current feed is controlled based on the temperature dependence of the electric resistance of the sealing material.
