PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a television receiver which enables a reduction in cost and a small size by dispensing with action and back-up a rewritable nonvolatile memories for downloading a control program and data for controlling the television receiver. SOLUTION: A television receiver has a rewritable nonvolatile memory 8 and a nonvolatile read-only memory 21 that stores a control program and data, which are written at a shipping time. The television receiver controls its functions using the data stored at the shipping time, which is written in the nonvolatile read-only memory 21, if the receiver fails to downloads the data into the nonvolatile memory 8.
