PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a halftone screening method for preparing an ideal gradation reproducible halftone dither by realizing halftone screening with composite cells with a suppressed pattern and to provide a computer readable program for the halftone screening method. SOLUTION: A patch with a pattern wherein an area with dots on is increased by one pixel at a time is outputted to all threshold patterns in order to confirm a visual pattern (step S1). A threshold being the same as that of a pixel to be painted after a visual pattern is set in the visual pattern so as not to reproduce the visual pattern (step S2). The visual pattern is then removed with the set threshold (step S3). Thereafter, the density of each pattern is measured, and an optimum pattern is selected in accordance with a target density value (step S4). COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
