PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cold cathode discharge tube and its manufacturing method capable of suppressing adverse effect on the discharging characteristic based upon the inclination of its main electrodes by positioning the main electrodes on the axis of a glass bulb. SOLUTION: The cold cathode discharge tube manufacturing method comprises processes of sealing in which one end opening of the glass bulb 2 is sealed with bead glass 4a attached to one main electrode 3a, of loose fitting in which the other main electrode 3b whereto a bead glass 4b is attached is fitted loosely in the glass bulb, of provisional fixing in which the bead glass attached to the other main electrode loosely fitted in the glass bulb is fixed to the glass bulb provisionally, of retaining in which part of the other main electrode positioned at the other end opening of the glass bulb is retained on the bead glass attached to the other main electrode so that it is positioned approximately on the axis of the glass bulb, and of encapsulating process in which the glass bulb between the two main electrode is filled the a rare gas, the bead glass and glass bulb are put in fusion attachment, and the rare gas is encapsulated between the two main electrodes.
