PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical assist magnetic recording head and an optical assist magnetic recording device wherein sizes are small and the utilization efficiency of a laser beam is high to enable the recording/reproducing of a high density/a high transfer rate. SOLUTION: The pair of magnetic poles 6a, 6b of a thin-film magnetic recording transducer 4 are arranged at the laser beam emission port of an optical waveguide 3 to match the irradiation position of a laser beam with a magnetic field application position. Thus, since a heating part is not widened by heat diffusion from laser beam irradiation to magnetic field application, a recording part is narrowed to achieve a high recording density. The thin-film coil 44 and the yokes 42, 43 of a transducer 4 are arranged on the side of the optical waveguide to enable miniaturization. Thus, a distance between the optical waveguide 3 and a magneto-resistive sensor 5 is shortened to facilitate the tracking of the same track. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
