PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cosmetic composition used as a solvent-based nail enamel composition having excellent service durability and luster. SOLUTION: This cosmetic composition contains at least one of organic solvent and a nitrocellulose containing free hydroxy groups which are completely or partially substituted by -OYR groups (R is a 1-500C linear or branched chain hydrocarbon-based chain or a 3-500C cyclic hydrocarbon-based chain which may be saturated or unsaturated and contain one or more O, N, S, Si and/or P atoms; and Y is a single bond or a linking group).
