PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a recorder in which the threshold value of a reflex photosensor can be set easily and a low cost reflex photosensor can be employed. SOLUTION: A dot impact printer having a recording head 18 further comprises a reflex photosensor 41B for detecting information concerning to a sheet medium using a detecting light, and a ribbon mask holder 41 for moving the reflex photosensor 41B in the main scanning direction of the recording head 18 integrally with a carriage 19 and holding it movably in the direction substantially perpendicular to the recording face of the sheet S.
