The ball joint is esp. for use in a vehicle suspension or steering gear. It has a housing with the moving ball linkage and a bearing shell in between. The bearing shell (18) around the ball joint (16) has small plates (26) of hard, wear resistant material inserted in corresponding recesses (28). When the joint is assembled, these plates lie under tension on the bearing surface of the ball. USE/ADVANTAGE - Vehicle suspension or steering ball joint functions over entire lifetime without detectable moment to break joint.
