PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a diene-based rubber, and to provide a rubber composition capable of giving a rubber cross-linked product which has excellent tensile strength and abrasion resistance, while keeping good processability. SOLUTION: This diene-based rubber (A) has a weight-average molecular weight (Mw) of 100,000-3,000,000, a ratio of Mw/Mn (Mn is a number-average molecular weight) of 1.30-2.50, and a ratio of Mw/Mp (Mp is a peak-top molecular weight) of 0.70-1.30. The rubber composition is compounded from the diene- based rubber (A), another diene-based rubber (B) having a Mn of 2,000-90,000 and/or an extending oil for the rubber. The diene-based rubber (A) is produced by conducting living polymerization reaction in a hydrocarbon solvent, then adding a reaction terminator to the reaction mixture, while a polymer conversion is in a range of 5-98%, so as to deactivate 10-90 mol% of polymerizable active end groups existing at the initial stage of the polymerization reaction, and finally adding the reaction terminator supplementarily, so as to completely terminate the reaction.
