<p>Methods and systems for determining and maintaining dormancy timers (Fig. 3) for subscribers (103) in a wireless wide area network (104) that promote efficient use of the radio channels are disclosed. Subscriber usage is monitored (110) to determine subscriber usage statistics. Based on the subscriber statistics, a dormancy timer value is determined for a given subscriber.
