A sewing machine thread comprising a high shrink filament whose thermal shrinkage ratio at dry heat 100ºC is 5% or more and a pile filament having pile on a filament surface, in particular, a high shrink sewing machine thread exhibiting a maximum thermal shrink stress at dry heat 100-150ºC of 0.1 to 0.5 cN/dtex, which is useful as for example, a sewing machine thread for buttoning that requires a durability of strong seam firmness or a sewing machine thread for waterproof and wind breaking products.
