PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method for continuously detecting and monitoring a position of a weld line regardless of environmental conditions at a low price. SOLUTION: Three ultrasonic probes 11a to 11c of a detecting apparatus 1 are arranged so that the probes 11a and 11c are equally spaced apart from the probe 11b. The probe 11a is a probe for transmission, while the probe 11c is a probe for reception. The probe 11b is switched between the transmission and the reception by an instruction from a controller 20. The controller 20 makes a determination whether a weld line 80 previously present between the probe 11b and either one of the two probes 11a and 11c is still present or not. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
