PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chip feeder for a melting tower capable of precisely measuring the storage amount of a chip to be fed. SOLUTION: The chip feeder is provided with a hopper 1, a metering chamber 2 and a sealed chamber 3. The hopper 1 sucks up the chip 26 stored inside a storage tank 14 so as to be fed to the metering chamber 2 by an own-weight fall. The metering chamber 2 is independent of other chambers and supported wholly by a suspension-type frame 19, a load cell 11 is connected to a support point to the suspension-type frame, and the weight of the chip inside the chamber is metered by using the load cell 11. The sealed chamber 3 is arranged below the metering chamber 2, replaces the air with an inert gas, and it feeds the chip by an own-weight fall to a direction control chamber 7 in a next process.
