<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydraulic shock absorber that suppresses the number of parts and machining costs and has a friction generating member easy to embody also in a conventional hydraulic shock absorber and variable in friction generated according to the magnitude of vibration amplitude. <P>SOLUTION: A friction ring 11 whose inner and outer circumferences are in sliding contact with a piston rod 21 and an oil seal 6 respectively is mounted so as to slide over a given axial distance with respect to the oil seal 6. A coefficient of friction between the oil seal 6 and the outer circumference of the friction ring is set smaller than a coefficient of friction between the piston rod 21 and the inner circumference of the friction ring. If a vibration amplitude at an extremely low piston speed is not larger than the given distance, friction generated between the oil seal 6 and the outer circumference of the friction ring is applied to the piston rod via the friction ring. If the vibration amplitude exceeds the given distance, friction generated between the piston rod 21 and the inner circumference of the friction ring is applied to the piston rod 21. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
