<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dissolution method for effectively separating platinum group elements from selenium. <P>SOLUTION: The method for dissolving the substance containing selenium and the platinum group elements comprises adding a flux consisting of a mixture of caustic soda and sodium nitrate to the substance containing selenium and the platinum group elements, heating it to an eutectic temperature of the flux or higher to melt it, leaching the melt in water to separate it into a liquid containing sodium selenite and a solid residue containing the platinum group elements. Then, the method nearly completely dissolves selenide of the platinum group elements, which has not been dissolved with a conventional wet process, and controls formation of hexavalent selenium to a low level, which has been a problem in a dry process. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO</p> |
