<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rolling bearing having excellent fretting resistance, wear resistance, sound property, and a reduced cost. <P>SOLUTION: In this rolling bearing, a rolling element 3 is interposed between an inner ring 1 and an outer ring 2, and a nitriding layer 5 is formed on a surface of the rolling element 3. As the rolling element 3, steel containing not more than 0.02% Nb content, not more than 20 ppm Ti content, not more than 0.1% by weight W content, not more than 9 ppm O content and having a rest part of made of Fe and an unavoildable impurity element is used. The estimated maximum diameter (√Area max) of a compound such as carbide, nitride, oxide assumed by means of statistics of extremes is made to be not more than 20μm. When a relation between√Area max and the thickness (Y) of the nitride layer is made to beα=Y/√Area max, an expression ofα≥2.5 is satisfied. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO</p> |
