<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce an oxygen content of a Laves-phase hydrogen storage alloy without causing black smoke and erosion of a refractory, which occur during addition of a deoxidizer in a process of manufacturing the alloy. <P>SOLUTION: This method for manufacturing the Laves-phase hydrogen storage alloy comprises melting raw materials for the composing elements in a melting furnace, adding a deoxidizer mixed with one or more elements of yttrium, lanthanum, and misch metals to them, and tapping it out. Then, the method deoxidizes the alloy while suppressing generation of the black smoke and the erosion of the refractory, during addition of the deoxidizer, and reduces the manufacturing cost for the alloy, because an inexpensive raw material with a high oxygen concentration can be used. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO</p> |
