<p>Disclosed is a method and apparatus for configuring an external device (30) so that may communicate with and an implantable medical device (5) in accordance with a desired telemetry protocols. The external device (30) utilizes a telemetry module (31) that can be loaded with a protocol driver (725) necessary for communicating with the implantable medical device (5). Once the desired protocol driver (725) has been installed, the telemetry module (31) and its associated external device (30), e.g., a physician programmer, are enabled to communicate with the implantable medical device (5).</p> |
