A method and a device for manufacturing a bare optical fiber having an excellent end face of a cladding material when removing the cladding material of the optical fiber. The bare optical fiber is manufactured by irradiating laser beam onto the optical fiber having a core cladded by the cladding material, so as to melt the cladding material having a melting point lower than that of the core of the optical fiber, thereby removing the cladding material. At the same time, cyan gas generated when melting the cladding material of the optical fiber is subjected to ozonolysis and neutralized.
