The invention relates to a method for heating a packaged product by means of a device comprising at least one microwave source, a waveguide, a cavity and a mobile system placed in the cavity, characterised in that the electromagnetic field distribution is defined and controlled. The magnetic field is conveyed into the cavity by means of at least two waves, forming a pair emanating from the same source or from two sources, guided by means of a waveguide in the form of a loop such as to produce a field of high intensity within a defined zone in said cavity by interference and the product for heating is displaced in the cavity by means of a translational movement. The invention further relates to a device for carrying out the above method.
